Women’s History Month: Local Spotlight, Sara Roizen!

Sara Roizen is an artist and art therapist, based in Beverly, Massachusetts. Sara is also a Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher and an Advanced Trauma Practitioner. I love integrating mindfulness skills and trauma informed practices into my art therapy work with clients. Over the years I have practiced art therapy in many settings, including psychiatric hospitals, children’s hospitals, day centers, outpatient programs, schools, and nonprofits. I value the flexibility of being an art therapist and using creativity to sculpt my career. For me this means that every day looks different!

“My ongoing personal studio practice keeps me in the creative flow and has always been a core part of my evolution as an art therapist.”

- Sara Roizen

She currently work with several organizations as a consultant art therapist and offer art therapy groups to help support frontline workers, staff, and even a group of volunteer coordinators in Ukraine through tele-art therapy groups. I also lead weekly art therapy groups with clients who are currently homeless with Lifebridge North Shore at a few locations, including at their newly opened women’s shelter have been coming together in circles for generations to make art, sing, write, listen, and heal. It is an honor to continue in this tradition, and as we sit together at our circular table each week I am inspired by the women’s strength, creativity, and open-heartedness. I am passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of art therapists too, and have been teaching art therapy at Emmanuel College and Endicott College. I share my passion for our field through my art therapy blog, which I began years ago when I was beginning graduate school for art therapy. She says “My ongoing personal studio practice keeps me in the creative flow and has always been a core part of my evolution as an art therapist.”
