Allison Rabin (she/her)

LMHC, ATR-BC Supervising Art Therapist

Undergraduate Degree - Kenyon College
Masters Degree - George Washington University
Specialty/Age Groups Treated - I love incorporating the art in therapy, which is true for clients of all ages. My style is relaxed and I witness and facilitate clients learning more about themselves by identifying strengths, negative thoughts developed from trauma, personal symbols, and creativity. Clients can be new to art or artists looking to use creativity in a new way.

  • The first session (after the intake) will likely involve using art to identify goals or building rapport through learning about the clients interests or passions.

  • I can do talk therapy or art therapy and use techniques from DBT, mindfulness, EMDR, ARC and ACT.

  • My grandpa helped invent the color tv.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Art Therapist with an MA in Art Therapy from George Washington University, which I earned in 2007. For over a decade, I have worked with clients of all ages, both individually and in Arts-Based Therapy Groups, to address challenging emotional, cognitive, and social issues through Art Therapy. My specializations include Trauma and PTSD, Anxiety and Depression, and Social or Communication difficulties. I am also trained in DBT.

In my clinical work, I help clients identify their objectives for therapy and collaboratively design art projects to address these objectives through metaphor. Through an intuitive process, clients surface unexpressed thoughts and feelings affecting their mental health. They develop an inner voice and a set of tools that help them make healthy decisions and overcome obstacles, feeling less stuck and more adept at achieving their life goals.

I am also an accomplished visual artist and enjoy sharing my passion for drawing, painting, sewing, and mixed media.
